PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Design LAB creates awareness, appreciation, and improvement in the built environment. We highlight the importance of improvement through responsible building and viable career paths that will lead our students to the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industries.

Local professionals volunteer to work with teachers and guide students through a real-world, themed design problem that emphasizes the development of: research, critical thinking, financial literacy, problem solving, verbal and visual communication, creative expression, collaborative team-building, STEM, and presentation skills.

Volunteers work with students from December to May. Each classroom is matched with a volunteer who works with them every other week throughout the program. Each lesson is approximately 45-60 minutes and is presented by the teacher and volunteer team. Design LAB provides necessary materials including the Educator & Volunteer Resource Guide, kick-off presentation, and building materials.
